What is the El Salvador Immersion Program?
volcano
Begun in 2000 by a former Saint Mary's teacher who had ties to El Salvador, this immersion trip takes students to the small town of Guarjila in Chalatenango, El Salvador. While there, students live with families of the Tamarindo Youth Group. We live simply and spend our days in community and solidarity with the youth of Guarjila. We also visit important cultural and historic sites and see the natural beauty of this Central American country. Spanish and English are spoken. Participants of this trip find their faith, sense of self and understanding of the world challenged. They also form lasting friendships and a commitment to serve humanity.
